Compression team at UAB is composed by J. Bartrina-Rapesta, X. Fernández-Mellado, P. Quintas-Torra, and J. Serra-Sagristà. We bring together a diverse and complementary skill set in fields such as data science, signal processing, software engineering, and applied mathematics.
We are responsible for the Data Compression Packet, a key component within the overall system architecture. Our primary goal is to develop efficient, robust, and low computational demand data compression methods that ensure reduced storage and transmission costs without compromising data integrity or accessibility.
Our tasks include:
• Designing and implementing compression algorithms tailored to the specific characteristics of the input data.
• Evaluating performance in terms of compression ratio, speed, and computational cost.
• Collaborating with adjacent teams to guarantee seamless integration.
We are excited to announce that the core compression algorithm for our Data Compression Packet has been defined!
After a thorough analysis of the system requirements and data characteristics, we have settled on an approach that balances compression efficiency, speed, and integration ease.
At this stage, the algorithm is still under development and active testing. We are currently focusing on:
• Fine-tuning parameters according to the camara output data.
• Adapt the compressor and evaluate performance for scientific needs.
• And ensuring compatibility with downstream components.
